There are currently 47 state climatologists in the AASC, one from each represented state. These state climatologists are appointed within each state and are recognised by the National Climatic Data Center

, with whom the AASC collaborates. There are also associate members of the AASC, bringing the total membership to approximately 150. Members and associate members of the AASC perform various climatological services and research.
