She has covered major events such as 9/11, the Iraq War, the Global Financial Crisis, the Asian Tsunami and the Asian Financial Crisis. Drury has named covering 9/11 and the Asian Tsunami as the most difficult situations she has ever faced on the job.

Drury was stationed in CNBC Sydney in 2009 before being transferred to CNBC's global headquarters in New Jersey in May 2010.

Drury's expertise along with her good looks has catapulted her to favorable rankings since she her move State side - according to Jeremy Pink of SVP Business News, CNBC, "Amanda is one of the smartest and most talented business news anchors anywhere in the world and we are very excited that she is joining our US team."

Speaking at an MLC Old Collegians’ Club breakfast in October 2009, Drury spoke about her career and family, including her desire and belief that she could, “Have it all,” but learning how to do that came at quite an expense. Drury said she has sought to always hold true to a desire to help people and be the best she could be.
