came into existence two and a half decades back. The hospital is located 7 km away from Thrissur town in Thrissur-Kunnamkulam Route.

History

The foundation stone for hospital was laid down on October 16, 1981 by Sri.B.Sankaranand, he then Central Minister for Health.The Hospital was officially inaugurated on March 19, 1983 by Sri. K. Karunakaran, the then Chief Minister of Kerala.

Herbal Garden

Herbal Garden consists of nearly 700 different species of medicinal plants. Majority of these plants are collected from the forest areas. The tribal who possess traditional knowledge on medicine, provides more information and also help in the collection of the particular medicinal plants. These plants are collected and cultivated in the herbal garden and later pass to the research wing.

Fr. Gabriel Herbarium & Museum

This centre prepares Herbarium Sheets of different species of medicinal plants and these are identified in the centre. These identified Herbal Sheets are sending to Botanical Survey of India, Coimbatore (Madras Herbarium) for authentification.
These Herbal Sheets are beneficial to the Project students, researchers and medical students. There is a large collection of crude drug samples identified and bottled in the museum. The centre published a book on medicinal plants titled ‘Keralathile Oushadhasasyagal’ in local language. This book gives awareness about the medicinal plants, Ayurvedic properties and usages, chemical composition, classical formulation, method of cultivation etc. Dept. of Science and Technology gave sanction to the centre an innovative project namely “Involvement of Women in Cultivation of Medicinal Plants and in Indigenous Health Practices” on 2007.

Academic programme

Ayurvedic hospital conducts Kerala Government Certified Ayurveda Paramedical Courses in three specialties approved by the Department of Ayurveda medical education of Kerala. The courses are:
  • Ayurveda Nursing
  • Ayurveda Pharmacy
  • Ayurveda Therapy


Duration: One year for all courses.

Eligibility: Candidates who have passed S.S.L.C with 50% marks.
