He continued to impress in domestic cricket, scoring three hundreds each in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons of the Ranji Trophy. As of 27 December 2010, he averaged a high 69.01 in first-class cricket, which currently places him in the top 4 batsman in the world with the highest first class batting averages. Two centuries in the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia brought him a place in the India ODI squad for the tour of England in 2011.
He made his debut on 31/8/11 and made 61 runs against England in his debut.
Early Career

During a local tournament the Coach of S.V Joshi High School,Dombivli Mr.Vasant Dhanipkar was not at all impressed. He asked him to join him at S.V Joshi High School where he can avail better facilities and get a much better platform to launch his Cricketing career.Ajinkya started playing for S.V Joshi High School and guided his school to a historic 3 time consecutive victory at Amar Paladhe Memorial Trophy contested between schools of Dombivli and Kalyan.Rahane on the basis of this performance was selected at MCA(Mumbai Cricket Association) coaching academy.Initially he struggled to get a place in the Under-16 Mumbai team due to the presence of a few big names in the team.It is heard that Rahane's father requested the Coach of Mumbai team to give his son one opportunity to prove himself and his prayers were answered.Ajinkya played his first U-16 Ranji match and scored a match saving century and guiding Mumbai team to a respectable draw.Since then he has not looked back and went on to make a mark in the India Under-19 team and later in IPL(Indian Premier League
