The Aitareya Brahmana (AB, rarely also known as Ashvalayana Brahmana) is a ritualistic Vedic text in Vedic Sanskrit language. This Brahmana is associated with the Rigveda in the Shakala shakha.
It is believed to have been composed around 600 BC.
It deals principally with the explanation of Mantras and ritual action occurring in Soma sacrifices. Sections (pancaka) 1-5 are older than sections 6-8.

It deals principally with the explanation of Mantras and ritual action occurring in Soma sacrifices. Sections (pancaka) 1-5 are older than sections 6-8. The first five were composed in the western part of North India, the last 3 in the east (Audh, Bihar).
