Encyclopedia
Aceramic is a classification of certain early human civilisations, implying the culture has not yet produced pottery.
The attribute is often associated with the early phase of Neolithic cultures.
An example of aceramic peoples includes certain early settlements on the island of Cyprus circa 8000 to 5600 BC. On Crete the aceramic era is a Neolithic culture judged to be prior to approximately 6000 BC. Alternatively, this type of cultural characterisation by pottery type is sometimes termed preceramic.
