Sheikh Abdullah is the younger half-brother of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the current Emir of Qatar, to whom Abdullah is currently an advisor.

Political history

  • July 17, 1989: Appointed Minister of the Interior.
  • July 11, 1995: Appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.
  • October 29, 1996: Appointed Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and continued at the head of the Interior portfolio until January 2, 2001.
  • April 3, 2007: Resigns and is replaced by Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al Thani as Prime Minister.
