, ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulations) has two roles:
  • To manage and uphold standards which reflect media industry needs. These standards determine best practice in how media industry data is prepared and reported.
  • Offer an audit and compliance service to check that data and processes meet these industry agreed standards.


ABC is governed by the media industry, for the media industry and is the expert at setting data and process
standards across multiple platforms. ABC provides a stamp of trust for media buyers, media owners, publishers
and digital traders working in existing and emerging platforms.

History

The Audit Bureau of Circulations (UK) is known as "ABC". It was founded on 14 October 1931, initially by ISBA (Society of British Advertisers) to provide an independent verification of circulation/data figures to facilitate the buying and selling of advertising space within UK National newspapers. ), PPA, NS and NPA (Newspaper Publishers' Association) became involved and ABC has developed into the organisation it is today, providing independent verification of data for print, lists/databases and exhibitions in the UK and Ireland.

On the 21 March 2011 ABC and ABCe united under one brand putting digital and innovation at the heart of the organisation. Print remains the bedrock of ABC, digital activity currently accounts for 30 per cent of ABC’s revenue. This is predicted to continue to grow significantly, making this move a natural progression in the evolution of the organisation.

ABC is a not for profit organisation governed by a board of permanent and elected representatives from advertisers, advertising agencies, media owners and their representative trade bodies. It is a leading member of the International Federation of ABCs.
