In Major League Baseball, the 3,000 Hit Club is an informal term applied to the group of players who have made 3,000 or more career base hits. Currently, there are 27 players who have accomplished this. Craig Biggio of the Houston Astros is the latest player to reach this milestone, on June 28, 2007 against the Colorado Rockies in Houston. In addition to the 27 players in the 3,000 hit club, a total of 88 players have 2,500 hits.
The first to accomplish the feat was Cap Anson in 1897, before what is known as the "modern era of baseball," making the 3,000 hit club one of the oldest milestones in the sport.

The first to accomplish the feat was Cap Anson in 1897, before what is known as the "modern era of baseball," making the 3,000 hit club one of the oldest milestones in the sport. Every eligible member of the club is in the Baseball Hall of Fame, with the exception of Pete Rose who has been barred entrance to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Furthermore, every eligible player who has reached 3,000 hits after 1962 has been elected on the first ballot.
The 1990s saw seven players reach 3,000 hits, tied with the 1970s for the most of any decade. The 1980s saw only one player break the 3,000 milestone, Rod Carew in 1985.
As the 3,000-hit milestone typically occurs toward the end of a player's career, it's rare for a player to show power or great speed on the milestone hit. The only player to hit a home run for his 3,000th hit was Wade Boggs, who hit a two-run home run for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The only one to hit a triple for his 3,000th was Paul Molitor for the Minnesota Twins. Biggio, the most recent player to reach the milestone, was also the only one to be called out at the end of his milestone hit, being caught trying to stretch a single into a double; he is also the only member of the club to get his 3000th hit while also recording a five-hit game.

Currently only one player in Nippon Professional Baseball, Japan's major league, has ever reached the 3000 hit club. Isao Harimoto, who played for the Toei Flyers, the Yomiuri Giants and the Lotte Orions, recorded 3,085 hits during his 23-year career from 1959 through 1981.
As of the end of 2008, Ichiro Suzuki has recorded 3,083 hits in his combined career in Japan and MLB: 1,278 with the Orix BlueWave, and 1,805 so far with the Seattle Mariners. Ichiro's 3000th hit came on 2008-07-29 against the Texas Rangers.
Ageless wonder Julio Franco amassed 4,229 hits over his professional career, but only 2,586 in Major League Baseball.
In the media
Comedian Bernie Mac starred in the film Mr. 3000, about an arrogant player who immediately retires upon reaching the milestone, only to discover years later through a clerical error that he really only has 2,997 hits and must rejoin the team to recover the record.
