The 2010 League of Ireland was the 90th season of the League of Ireland
. For the 26th season in succession, it was played using a two division format, consisting of the League of Ireland Premier Division and the League of Ireland First Division. Bohemians
were the defending League of Ireland champions and League of Ireland Cup holders. UCD
competed in the Premier Division having won promotion as First Division champions in 2009.
On 29 October 2010, Shamrock Rovers
won the title after a 2-2 draw away to Bray Wanderers. They narrowly beat rivals Bohemians
to the title by virtue of a better goal difference.

. The Lilywhites secured a 3–3 draw in the first leg in Luxembourg. Dundalk qualified for the next stage by winning 2–1 at Oriel Park.
Sporting Fingal
and Shamrock Rovers
entered in the second qualifying round of the competition and were drawn against Portuguese club C.S. Marítimo and Israel
i club Bnei Yehuda respectively, while Dundalk's progression earned them a tie against Bulgaria
n side Levski Sofia. Fingal equalised with three minutes to go in the first leg in Madeira but went behind again in the 95th minute, losing 3–2. Rovers went behind to their Israeli opponents in Tallaght but grabbed an injury time equaliser. Dundalk lost by six goals to Sofia in Bulgaria. In the second leg, Rovers won 1–0 in Israel to progress 2–1 on aggregate. Dundalk were beaten for a second time by Levski Sofia, while Sporting Fingal again lost 3–2 to Maritimo and were eliminated by 6–4.
Shamrock Rovers' progression to the next round earned them a tie with Italian
club Juventus. Rovers lost the first leg against Juventus 2-0 at home.
