1642   Charles I attempts to arrest five leading members of the Long Parliament, but they escape. A precursor to English Civil War.

1643   First Battle of Middlewich in the English Civil War. During this battle the Roundheads routed the Cavaliers at Middlewich in Cheshire, England.

1644   At English Civil War Battle of Nantwich the Parliamenterians defeated the Royalists, allowing them to end the six week Siege of Nantwich in Cheshire, England.

1645   English Civil War: Uxbridge armistice talks failed.

1645   Siege of Raglan Castle during the English Civil War

1645   English Civil War: Fairfax appointed Commander-in-Chief.

1645   English Civil War: Armistice talks opened at Uxbridge.

1645   English Civil War: New Model Army is founded officially

1645   English Civil War: Prince Rupert left Oxford for Bristol.
