Overview:
The Owl Nebula is a nubula which is located in the constellation Ursa Major atthe coordinates RA 11 14.8 and Declination 55 01. It is 2,600 light years fromthe planet Earth making it the 19th furthest Messier Object from Earth. It has an angular size of 3.4 x 3.3 arc minutes.

Designation:
The Owl Nebula is one of 12 nebulae included in the Messier Catalog of deep sky objects. It is known by the Messier Catalog number M97. It has an NGC catalog number of NGC 3587.

Discoverer:
The Owl Nebula was discovered by the astronomer Pierre Méchain in 1781.
