Messier Object M61 is a Galaxy which was discovered by Barnabus Oriani in 1779. It has an angular size of 6 x 5.5 arc minutes.

Location:
M61 is located within the borders of the constellation Virgo at RA 12 21.9 and Declination 04 28. It is 60,000 light years from the planet Earth which makes it the 94th furthest Messier Object from Earth.

In relation to other objects from the Messier catalog, M61 is a relatively dim deep space object with a visual magnitude of 9.7.
