Description

Overview:
The Messier Object M51 is a Galaxy which was discovered by Charles Messier in 1773. It has an angular size of 11 x 7 arc minutes.

Location:
M51 is located within the borders of the constellation Canes Venatici at RA 13 29.9 and Declination 47 12. It is 37,000 light years from the planet Earth which makes it the 86th furthest Messier Object from Earth.

Brightness:
In relation to the other Messier Objects, M51 is a relatively dim deep sky object with a visual magnitude of 8.4.
