The Messier Object M47 is a Open Cluster discovered by Giovanni Batista Giovanni Battista Hodierna in 1654. It has an angular size of 30 arc minutes.

Location:
M47 is located inside the constellation Puppis at RA 07 36.6 and Declination -14 30. It is 1,600 light years from the planet Earth which makes it the 9th furthest Messier Object from Earth.

Brightness:
Compared to other Messier Objects, M47 is a bright deep space object with a brightness rating of 5.2.
