Messier Object M17 is a Cluster with Nebula which was discovered by Philippe Loys de Chéseaux in 1745-1746. It has an angular size of 11 arc minutes.

M17 is located inside the constellation Sagittarius at Right Ascension 18 20.8 and Declination -16 11. It is 5,000 light years from the planet Earth which makes it the 31st furthest Messier Object from Earth.
