Ryukyu Islands
The Ryukyu Islands or more recently the , are an island chain in the western Pacific Ocean at the eastern limit of the East China Sea. It stretches southwestward from the island of Kyushu to Taiwan. The islands are administratively divided into Satsunan Islands to the north, belonging to Kagoshima Prefecture, and Ryukyu Shoto to the south, belonging to Okinawa Prefecture, Japan.

Ryukyuans
Ryukyuan people, are the indigenous people of the Ryukyu Islands of Japan between the islands of Kyushu and Taiwan. Politically, they live in either Okinawa Prefecture or Kagoshima Prefecture. Their languages make up the Ryukyuan languages, one of the two branches of the Japonic languages, the other one being Japanese and its dialects.
