The Sombrero Galaxy is a galaxy which is located within the borders of the constellation Virgo at the coordinates Right Ascension 12 40.0 and Declination -11 37. It is 50,000,000 light years from the planet Earth making it the 93rd furthest Messier Object from Earth. It has an angular size of 9 x 4 arc minutes.

Designation:
The Sombrero Galaxy is one of 12 galaxies included in Charles Messier's Catalog of deep sky objects. It is known by the Messier Catalog number M104. It has an NGC catalog number of NGC 4594.

Discoverer:
The Sombrero Galaxy was discovered by the astronomer Pierre Méchain in 1781.
