The Pinwheel Galaxy is a galaxy which is located inside the constellation Ursa Major at the coordinates Right Ascension 14 03.3 and Declination 54 21. It is 27,000,000 light years from the planet Earth making it the 82nd furthest Messier Object from Earth. It has a size of 22 arc minutes.

Designation:
The Pinwheel Galaxy is one of 12 galaxies included in the Messier Catalog of deep sky objects. It is known by the Messier Catalog number M101. It has an NGC catalog number of NGC 5457.

Discoverer:
The Pinwheel Galaxy was discovered by the astronomer Pierre Méchain in 1781.
