Overview:
The Andromeda Galaxy is a galaxy which is located in the constellation Andromeda at the coordinates Right Ascension 00 42.7 and Declination 41 16. It is 2,900,000 light years from the planet Earth making it the 72nd furthest Messier catalog object from Earth. It has an angular size of 178 arc minutes.

Designation:
The Andromeda Galaxy is one of twelve galaxies included in the Messier Catalog of deep sky objects. It is known by the Messier number M31. It has an NGC catalog number of NGC 224.

Discoverer:
The Andromeda Galaxy was discovered by the astronomer Abd Al-Rahman Al Sufi in 964.

Brightness:
Compared to other galaxies, Andromeda Galaxy is a relatively luminous galaxy with an integrated visual magnitude of 3.4.
