can anyone help me ? i cannot seem to obtain the latest white tailed deer count for short hills provincial park. i know that the population is much higher than it should be and this is causing much damage to new plant growth in the park and also damage to local farmers crops. official counts have been done with in the last 2 or 3 years but i cannot recall which government agency has been responsible for that count.

My husband and I are frequent hikers at ShortHills. At least once a year, park officials use a helicopter for the deer count. This year I think it was done in early summer. We called a few months later to ask about the deer count and were told there was close to 400 deer in the park. The soybean fields surrounding the area are a great attraction to the deer. This year we have seen not only twin fawns, but a doe with triplets!!! Seeing deer has never lost it's thrill and we enjoy it along with the other things we see.

Thank you for your info on the deer count. i hike the park during the dry season, spring is too wet and activities in the park are discouraged because of environmental degradation concerns. the winter is an especially good time to snowshoe in the park because the deer are more easily seen with all the deciduous leave down. thanks again for the info.
