Why was the History of Joseph the Carpenter left out of the bible?

Does anyone know why it was left out of the bible? Or any of its historical/ archeological facts? ...ex) who wrote it and when? where was it found and under what circumstances? is the text damaged, fragmentary or incomplete?
Any info about about the History of Joseph the Carpenter will help!!
