Why do sandhill cranes build little piles of dirt? They are obviously not for nesting as they build them everywhere. Just wondering what the purpose of these hills of sand are for.

Why do sandhill cranes build little piles of dirt? They are obviously not for nesting as they build them everywhere. Just wondering what the purpose of these hills of sand are for.
