Who is melpomene? Was she one of the muses?

Originally the Muse of Singing, she is now known as the Muse of Tragedy. She wears cothurnus's, or tragedy boots, and a tragic mask. Pretty tragic. Tragic plays were very popular in the Ancient greek times.
The muses are 9 daughters of Zeus and the titan Mnemosyne.
