The Supermarine Spitfire was one of the most successful fighter aircraft of the Second World War and was flown mainly by the Royal Air Force, the Commonwealth Air Forces (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc.) It was also flown by Polish, Czech, French and other Allied squadrons under the operational command of the Royal Air Force - this included Americans who fought for Britain before the USA entered the war.

Perhaps the most successful squadron of them all, during the Battle of Britain, was the Polish 303 Squadron which also had the highest individual scoring pilot.
