Not one person, but a whole civilization... And guess what civilization that was..... (drumrrrrrollll)...... THE GREEKS!!!!
The greeks needed some reason to explain natural wonders, so, with a dearth of science, they used mythology!! Examples are the sun(apoollo)

The Classical poests Hesiod, Homer and Pindar, to name the most well known.

Hesiod wrote the Theogony, which tells about the creation of the world. Homer wrote the Iliad & Oddyssey and Pindar wrote the Olympian Odes & etc

Mythology is not the attempt of a pre-scientific society to understand natural phenomenon, it's the attempt of a literate society to express it's understanding of the divine.

I agree. I also think that over time it changed. And those changes are reflected in the changes in the myths. For example, by the time of Hesiod and Homer, the Greeks had colonies and had created the polis, so that Zeus becomes the representative of the justice that is represented by the polis, and is especially notable in the Iliad and the Odyssey.
