I have a question concerning Roger Bushell's capture by the Gestapo. Paul Brickhill's account in his book, The Great Escape, describes Roger and his partner Jack Zafouk hiding in the Czech family's home. Since Roger couldn't speak Czech, he remained indoors mostly. While the family was out, the Gestapo found them there and arrested them, due to a tip from the Czech's neighbors.

Another story from Jon E. Lewis's book The Mammoth Book of True War Stories describes it differently. Roger was at a cinema with the daughter of his Czech host when the Gestapo entered the theater and demanded to see people's papers. Since Roger could not speak Czech, the Czech's daughter tried to speak for him. The Gestapo obviously did not believe her story and arrested Bushell.

I wondered why Roger would have been out if he were unable to communicate in Czech, since it would have endangered him. I wasn't sure if one account was inaccurate or if they were two separate incidents entirely.
