Really.. Why don't the big Zeps exist?!
There's a TV show about heavier-than-air (HTA) commercial passenger aircraft crashes, disasters that are, in most cases, quite horrific.. Hundreds dead, no survivors, sometimes a big inferno. Yet the commercial HTA airline industry continues on, unaffected by such catastrophe. And at the same time, the lighter-than-air (LTA) commercial passenger industry is, somehow, considered unsafe, undo-able.
What's more... Those two pioneering lighter-than-air commercial passenger airships from the 1930's (LZ 127 & 129) were always booked solid/sold out. Passengers had their own Pullman-like compartments, room to leisurely walk about, dine and so forth. Those lighter-than-air aircraft were, of course, non-smoking due to their hydrogen lift-gas cells. But one of the aircraft, the LZ 129, had a specially designed smoking compartment and sold a small selection of tobacco products. The LZ 129 also had a small liquor lounge and gift shop.
That was in the mid-1930's.. In 1937, the second year of the LZ 129's operation, the 129 had a very serious accident that only 1/3 of it's passengers survived.. The hydrogen lift-cells exploded and destroyed the entire airship. Yet nearly one third of those passengers on board the airship survived that disaster.
So does "need-for-speed" or lack of safety provide an explanation for non-availability of passenger airships and airship travel? Ocean going passenger ships operate at far less than the speed of the 1930's airships, and they're still around.
So what's up?! -What's going on? 300 people crash into a mountain and die in a heavier-than-air craft, and around the world, regular scheduled HTA service continues as though the incident never occurred.. But with the LZ 129 incident..-even though nearly 1/3 of the passengers survived, it is explained as reason for the end of LTA passenger craft and service.
OK.. So, assuming there's no "conspiracy theory" afoot...What's going on?
