The Welsh people are akin to all the Gaelic peoples in Cumbria,Pictland in Scotland, Cornwall who spoke a type of Gaelic. The other type of Gaelic is spoken by the Irish and other Scots. At one time all these peoples came from Western Europe and were trapped in the area around where the Basques are now and their Haplogroups are shared by the people that lives around this area which is now known as Spain and France. They were trapped because the Ice Age happened from about 20,000 years ago and was at its height at 18,000 years ago. People living in Western Europe were driven southward from the northern climes of Europe to the area around the Basque country until the ice started to melt around 10,000 years ago. A large swaithe of these people nearly died off but they kept going. As the ice melted the people moved across to England and Ireland. There was no sea and plenty of wooly mammoths and rhinos who would forage in this area. Their skeletons are found in large numbers in the sea between England and Europe by dredgers and fishing boats. While the ancesters of tha Gaels were still in Europea a female mutated. The majority of females were from the mitochondrial DNA "Helena" and "Velda" was the new Haplogroup. Helena now dominates the British Isles and Velda is founs in the Scandannavian countries and as low as North Africa. Other Haplogroups found in the British Isles are originally from Northern Greece called "Ursula",and was born 45.000 years ago; from Venice was "Katrine" born about 17,000 years ago,:from Tuscany was "Tara", and Xeniafrom west of the river Don near the Ural mountains and Balkans. There were other Haplogroups from Northern countries but they could not venture forth because of the terrible ice so they came later. See all this from Bryan Sykes, "The Seven Daughters of Eve" tHE MALE GROUPS WERE MAINLY NAMES WITH THE LETTER "r" .
