Shorthand

When I was in H.S., I learned a form of shorthand and if I can remember right, it was called Century 21 shorthand/dictation.

I can still remember most of the symbols for the alphabet and words. I was curious, and wanted to refresh my memory of how to write it again and when I went on line to find a book illustrating the symbols, alphabet and words of the Century 21 style of shorthand, all that I could find was the Gregg version and one other version which is not the same as the style that I learned.

Their letters and symbols are different. I can still write sentences clearly in my mind and the other day, I put pencil to paper and was shocked at how much of it I remember.

Please help me confirm that I am not crazy and some alien being did not come to me during the night and fill my head with a strange language of communication symbols!!!!

Hi! I also took shorthand in high school. It was, indeed, called Century 21 Shorthand. I also remember a lot, but wanted to do some research online. I found just about as much as you! I did just order a used book from Amazon and I'm hoping it's the same red hardcover textbook I had in high school. I'd love to freshen up my skills and be able to write it again. It was really fun. How funny to think back and how much we didn't know what kind of incredible technology we'd have today, rendering shorthand almost obsolete!

Anyway, just wanted to say you're not crazy! :)) heehee

Hello! I took Century 21 shorthand in high school as a pilot program in 1981-1982. I could take dictation at 120wpm for 5 minutes and still use shorthand at work. I love it because it's very rare that anyone else can read it. Luckily, I kept my books and Century 21 Shorthand dictionary from my school days as there is just nothing out there on-line. So, you're definitely not crazy! If you ever want to discuss Century 21 Shorthand, email me at dripley7@comcast.net. I would love to meet some fellow "students".

I cannot find any information on Century 21. I took this back in high school (1975 - 1978). I loved it and still use it for notes, etc.

Please let me know if you find any information on this form of Shorthand.

Knowing shorthand gave me an opportunity for employment in the fields of Legal, Computers and Automotive Industries.

Class of 1978.
