The Vietnam War was largely a guerilla war. U.S. forces had to grapple with a lightly-armed insurgency led by the Vietcong.

Media coverage of the war was more widespread than coverage of any previous war, due to new technology. This coverage brought the horrors of war home to the civilian populace.
