Some people believe that this story is a type of parable and carries a hidden meaning for 'those that have ears to hear.'

These people believe that the story is about mankind (Adam and Eve) eating the fruits of the tree of good and evil (gaining experience through curiosity) and through intelligent deliberation becoming self aware. Thus they begin to realize the difference between good and evil.

The consequence of this discernment is that they - by the very fact of their self-awareness - can no longer live as all the other animals (in the bliss of ignorance) but must leave this simple paradise (the garden of Eden) and live in a world of choice rather than instinct with all the responsibilities for behaviour that that entails.

Put out of the Garden of Eden into the wider world they achieve the chance (through wisdom) to eat of the fruits of the Tree of Life (immortality.)

But, like everything else, we have the choice to believe this or not.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. The Scriptures are a spiritual revelation from God. The Garden is not a literal garden, The garden is the word of God the SCRIPTURES. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil is the LAW. Paul very clearly teaches in the new testament the LAW IS DEATH IT KILLS, IT IS WRATH, CONDEMNATION, A CURSE. AMEN
