The Barca family was not of African descent. The Carthaginians were of Semitic descent as they arrived from the Phonecian city of Tyre which was in modern-day Lebanon. The Carthaginians also did not inter-marriage with the Africans that lived within their empire, except for several instances where leaders offered their daughters hand in marriage to African kings or princes to secure alliances. Proof of this is verified as men living in Lebanon around where Tyre once was have a certain defect in a certain gene which is also found in the remains of men from Tyre, showing that this defect was passed down from generation to generation. When examining remains from males from Carthage graves, scientists found the same defective gene, showing that it was brought over to Africa by the men from Tyre. However, when scientists tested numerous men who live today in Africa around where Carthage once stood, they were unable to detect any of these same defects. This supported ancient Roman writings that stated that Carthaginians did not inter-marriage.
