It spoke until recently with much fervor but with the demise of the great Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (Father of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan), Ustad Bukshi Salamat and finally Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali khan the world turns to Doaba, land between two rivers for another one. That great source of a riveting experience involving the undiscovered soul of man never lets us down. Punjab (India / Pakistan), land of rivers, like always, has a new voice, a tradition that never falters, Qawwali lives. Ustad Bakshi Salamat Ali Kahn Qawwal, the father of Javaid Salamat and all the seven brothers was born in the Punjabi town of Jallundhar in 1929. The eminent scion of all time great, Roray Khan Qawwal, he represents a notable lineage of Qawwali musicians. While still young Salamat become a spiritual disciple of Sufi Syed Yusuf Shah Qadri-Chishti and devoted himself to Qawwali. He was hailed as one of the most celebrated musicians of Pakistan. The illustrious fathers of Nusrat Fateh Ali paid homage to this bright star. When in 1982 Slamat died of pain in his heart, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan proudly took over his eldest son, Javaid Salamat and Nadeem Salamat to his fold as his most able pupil as Sufi/Qawwali traditions.Bakhshi Javed Salamat himself was trained by his father for seventeen years, and continued his training with the incomparable Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, regarded by many to have been the greatest human voice for generations.
