my name is ernest smith
my father and grandfather's were gamekeepers at Sutton-upon-Derwent for Viscount St Vincent from early 1800's to the time the estate was sold round about1946-7.
a lot of people in the village of Sutton-upon-Derwent,
seem to think that the estate was awarded to the First Viscount, for his success at the battle of St Vincent.
I am unable to agree with this , as the estate did not come into the hands of the Jervis family till after the death of the first Viscount St Vincent.
Previous owners of the estate was a Sir Thomas Clarges.
looking through the history of the title "Viscount St.Vincent" it came down through Edward Jervis, Viscount St Vincent's nephew.
the estate of Sutton-upon-Derwent came into the hands of the Jevis family in 1857,
now i do not know if that was the second Earl or his son, this is the connectoin i am seeking.
Has any one any information, it looks to me as though Edward Jervis Ricketts "2nd Viscount"'s son died prior to teh send Earl .
What i am wondering is, did the second Earls son marry
into the family who owned the estate. the only imformation i have is the title"Viscount St .Vincent" passed from the second Earl to his grandson.
maybe im being to nosey, but i will be thankfull for any imformation imfomation will
