Thomas Lord Scrope died in 1609 when he was 41 or 42 in the village of Langar in Nottinghamshire.
Does anyone know what he died of and why he died there?
I recently wrote a book about Kinmont Willie Armstrong and his capture and rescue from Carlisle castle in 1596. Thomas, 10th baron Scrope, was English West March Warden at the time and until the Union of the Crowns in 1603.
I know his wife was Philidelphia Carey. Did Thomas end up there as a result of her inheritance?
Have been to the village church there to see the magnificent tomb of Thomas, his wife Philidelphia and his son Emmanuel. Definitely worth a visit. Anyone who wants a photo of his tomb just email me.
