The tube worm are bright red because they contain large amopunt of haemoglobin, which is critical to the survival of their symbiotic bacteria and hence the worms. this specialised haemoglobin carries oxygen and hydrogen sulphide. in addition to providing oxygen for its own oxidative metabolism, what role might this specialised haemoglobin play in the symbiotic relationship that is crucial for life in this hostile environment?
