The Santa Fe Trail begins in Independence Mo.However when it was first opened it began further to the east in Franklin Mo. That town was destroyed by a flood in 1828. The site was then moved to Independence and Westport Landing.

It ends in the town square in Santa Fe NM, a little over 1000 miles in length. It was also Known as the Great Commerce Road.
