The New Lassie. 48 episodes filmed between 1989 to 1990. First 24 episodes featured trainers Robert W. Weatherwax, Don Spinney and Robert R. Weatherwax. 2nd Season Carol Riggins stepped in for Robert R. Weatherwax since the relationship between Bob and his son was not harmonious. Robert Jr. continued working for Weatherwax Trained dogs for many years. While Carol worked as a third trainer on Lassie, Robert Jr. became head dog trainer on the "Flash" TV Series and assistant trainer on the Movie 'Beethoven'. While Bob Jr. continued working in the industry, Bob Sr. never mentioned his son - leaving fans to believe that he never had a son. Now Carol Riggins capably handles the corporate Lassie as a result of Bob's refusal to groom the seemingly obvious successor. Even today Bob Weatherwax Sr. does not include mention of his son on his website; even though the son is featured on IMBD and Lassie.Net. Robert Jr. continues to train dogs. Robert Sr.had been known to say that when he dies "Lassie" dies with him and offering no encouragement for his son to continue in the industry.

Carol Riggins has never "capably" handled the corporate Lassie. She is the worst trainer that Bob Weatherwax ever worked with, and he has told me that directly. She cannot get a dog to obey and seeing her and the dog at appearances proves that point. She cannot usually allow him off leash because she does not know if he's going to run off or stay around. No Lassie that Rudd and Bob Weatherwax trained ever acted that way. Robert Jr. has a checkered past with Lassie, and I will not say anymore about that. Lassie should die when Robert Sr. dies. No one but he and his father have the right to the Lassie line of collies.

Carol was handpicked to take over Lassie. I don't know what Bob said afterwards to others but I was there when the decision was made.

Dad is the greatest trainer living today. Growing up with him was eventful...that's all I have to say about that.
