It could not be more clear that the intent behind amendment is to ensure people can protect themselves from an out of control government.

2nd amendment advocates seem to forget this fact.

What's your point? The intent behind it is still valid.

I don't think militias have any relevance in modern society.

Gun ownership is not what stops the federal government from subjugating its citizens. It is that we all share common values - including people in government.
