Cape Palliser (Matakitakiakupe)is a major headland at the southern end of the North Island but it is not the southernmost point. This distinction belongs to Rocky Point, 1.5kms east of Cape Palliser. The Cape Palliser lighthouse is located above Rocky point. Rocky Point is approximately latitude 41°37'00"S and longitude 175°17'25"E.
