Bittersweet

I remember when this came out. I was stunned by the beauty of this young girl. I wondered how life would treat her since that culture is so brutal to women. I was happy and very sad when I saw the 2002 photo. Happy that she was alive and sad that the toll of war and this culture had taken it's toll. She is the same age as my sister yet looks 15 years older.

Gone is the spunk I saw in her eyes at 12 and now they seem to be replaced by a sadness. this I guess is as good as it can be for her in this country. A culture that destroys creativity, destroys the human spirit. All in the name of some god. How many millions of other girls have been crushed for this god and culture. I remember reading that when Cortez discovered the Aztecs there were more then 100,000 human skulls in the courtyard. All were sacrificed to their pagan gods. we call them the savage. Now I look at the culture in this part of the world and they destroy just as many lives as the Aztecs (if not more in the millions) and all to a god who apparently hates women.
