Late in the book, Cornwell writes that Ragnar has a "crippled" hand, while fighting Kjartan and again later when wrestling another Dane.

Does anyone know how Ragnar's hand got "crippled"? I've read the first 3 Saxon books and do not remember anything that would have crippled Ragnar's hand.
