Hi James
My parents and siblings spent time at the hostel. I am looking for anything, like
Any local gossip about what they were there for? My guess is that they were clearance from Glasgow with no where else to live and that the hostel having been emptied of WWII evacuees & asylum seekers was a perfect place to house these families. As I found a small bit of info from the Houses of Parliment.
What sort of place it was?
Do you remember a Dan Carruthers or Billy Carruthers at the local school?
There may be a chance that you came across one of them though Dan went to work for a local farmer in 1951/52.
The family were moved back to Glasgow around 1953.
Believe it or not cannot ask any one from that era as both parents died 1960's & 1970's and all my siblings have died in the last 4 years.
Bill requested that I find out stuff so that I can pass it onto his kids/grandkids.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Ellie

Hi James
I live in Surrey, England. I too am planning a visit to Scotland this year - Dumfries, so could travel up a bit further into Neilston. As yet I have not been to Neilston so I have no real knowledge of the area at all. My visit will not be until Sept I would think as I have not sorted out my holiday apart from May which is my daughters wedding.

Thank you so much for the above info. as it has been very difficult to gather any info as no living family and little has been written about 'the camp'. Look forward to anything that you can glean from those still in the area and in the know.

Again thanks.
