As an alum of CHS, I can tell you that it should not even be labelled as a High School. It is more like a religious cult with books. If you are looking for an education that is mind expanding, don't pick Chaminade. The brothers are not very world weary and don't relate to the adolescent of the 20th century.
Avery limited curriculum is offered with NO AP classes. This is rarity in New York. Many of CHS traditions
are unlike most HS. They don't permit a prom because of severe damages caused by the seniors. CHS grads ( all boys) have a reputation for acting out once they go to co-Ed colleges.
Chaminade has several feeder schools such as Villanova, Holy Cross and Fordham . Several years ago only 10 of 22 CHS grads completed their studies @ VU. Behavior and substance abuse issues proved to be a major part of this poor grad rate. VU overall 4 yr grad rate is about 92 per cent.
Chaminade's valedictorian and saluatorian are selected by student vote. In almost every other school in the country these positions are awarded to the first and second ranked student academically. CHS grads that have these designations have won a popularity contest. Since the school doesn't rank their students graduating seniors really don't know who the top ranked seniors are.
If the school does have any strength it is social studies areas . Science and math are weak departments. CHS doesn't encourage debate in the classroom. The Marianists are very narrow minded and set in their ways. Some have said that Chaminade means " our way or the highway"
