Prof. Ken Hammond, History Dept, NM University argues in his China History lecture series that Confucius argued that the Zhou Dynasty fell prey to the ba or hegemons because the hegemons failed/ceased to use the traditional rituals of the Five Relationships - principally Ruler - Subject.

Couldn't one argue that the failure was the Zhou's failure to reciprocate its duties etc to the pre-hegemon societies and thereby abdicated the Mandate of Heaven's right to rule?

Just a novice looking for greater clarity.

Thanks,

Scott
