Appointment of Peter Doroshenko as President and Artistic Director

The Pinchuk Art Centre is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Doroshenko as its full-time President and Artistic Director. Currently living in the United Kingdom, Peter Doroshenko, 45, will take up his new job in Kyiv on 1 December 2007. Until December 2007, Doroshenko was the Director of the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead – arguably one of the largest and well-attended contemporary art centres in the world. He comes to the Pinchuk Art Centre with over 20 years of extraordinary experience stretching around the globe, from Europe, North America and South America.
Doroshenko joins the Pinchuk Art Centre at an important time, with the expansion of its gallery spaces and the development of new audiences at the heart of the centre’s continuing success. He will work with Senior Curator, Claire Stabler, to develop and strengthen exhibition programming, and to lead a talented exhibition and educational team to new heights. Up-coming exhibitions include: one-person exhibitions with Serhiy Bratkov, Andreas Gursky and Mariko Mori; and a revolving series of recent acquisitions from the collection including seminal works by Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Oleg Kulik, Sarah Morris, Sam Taylor-Wood and Piotr Uklanski.
Since September 2006, Peter Doroshenko has been President of the Pinchuk Art Centre on a part-time basis. Doroshenko, an American of Ukrainian descent, was also the Commissioner for the dynamic and much talked about Ukrainian Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale this past summer.
Speaking from Newcastle today, Peter Doroshenko said, “I am very excited about the future. In less than one year, the Pinchuk Art Centre has become one of the most talked about and fastest growing private institutions in Europe. It’s great to be part of that energy – Kyiv is a capital city and an exciting place to be working in.”
The Pinchuk Art Centre opened in September 2006 and is the first large scale contemporary art centre in Ukraine. It is dedicated to fostering artistic talent regionally, nationally and internationally.
