On 14 February 1945 VMTB(CVS)-233 was operating off the Block Island when bad weather was encountered. Many of the aircraft were forced to ditch in the ocean as they had used up most of their fuel waiting for the ship to take them on. Major Vaupell, the C.O and his gunners cashed after running out of gas. I understand there was an court of inquiry into the cause of the loss of lives and aircraft. Anyone know the results? As a former member of VMTB-233 I would like to know
