The Wind River Reservation in Fremont Couny was given to the Shoshone Indians.

The US government then placed the Arapaho tribe there for what was to have been a short time until they had another location.
At the time the two tribes were deadly enemies. But after many years and no new locations the tribes have inter married.
The Arapaho are East of Fort Washakie. The Shoshone are on the main road through the area that goes on to DuBoise.

There is a great library in the elementary school there and they are very helpfull helping in finding the history books.
It is also a Culteral Center with a lot of Native American arts and crafts. Some for exhabition only and others for sale.
The kids graduate from high school wearing the "Family Beads" rather than cap and gown. It is a beautiful tradition.

The reservation is very large and has some of the most beautiful scenery in the US. I especially like "The Wind River Canyon located in the Northwestern part of the reservation.

Crow Heart is where it is said that Cheif Washakie fought with and killed the Crow Chief, then cut out his hert and ate of it.
