Oldtimer
I am trying to verify the words given by Wikipedia as the Tibetan, Mongolian, & Manchu names of the qilin. These are respectively hariharipo hariharimo, biligtei belegtei göröös, and sabitun sabintu.
A possible source for the alleged Tibetan name is VON ZACH, Erwin, Ritter, ‘Tibetica’, _The China Review, or, Notes & Queries on the Far East_ 24 (August 1889 – June 1900), № 6 (June 1900): 255–258 (257):
‘Hari-hari p’o, the male of the unicorn ;
hari-hari-mo, the female of the unicorn
cf. perhaps Sanscrit hari, steed of Indra.’
Alex Wilding pointed out to me that this refers to the male (p'o) & female (mo) of the mythical beast. Von Zach glosses the compound namme as 'unicorn' without reference to the qulin. I have been unable to learn anything further.
"Biligtei belegtei göröös" apparently means "clairvoyant auspicious antelope"; I have no information about this, & a native speaker of Mongolian whom I consulted had never heard of it.
Also, is Burmese ça-mayi (sar mayee) (not mentioned in the Wikipedia article) the qilin?
